Prayer For Rain
The globe is getting hotter. Fires rage and crops dry up. In response to a request Aidan and Hilda South African Voyager Bishop ERic PIke, although undergoing severe chemotherapy for cancer, composed this prayer for rain:
A Prayer for Rain
We look up to the mountains,
But this we know, that our help comes, not from the mountains, but from you
O Lord our God.
Our fields and pastures are barren and dry
But this we know, that our help comes from you O Lord our God
So we beseech you, Gracious Father, to send us rain.
Our reservoirs are running dry and reserves are low
But this we know, that our help comes from you O Lord our God
So we beseech you, Gracious Father, to send us rain.
Our rivers are almost dry and water courses are but a trickle
But this we know, that our help comes from you O Lord our God
So we beseech you, Gracious Father, to send us rain.
The cattle, sheep and goats are listless and pant for water
But this we know, that our help comes from you O Lord our God
So we beseech you, Gracious Father, to send us rain.
The kudu, buffalo, rhino and zebra search in vain for fresh pastures
But this we know, that our help comes from you O Lord our God
So we beseech you, Gracious Father, to send us rain.
Our fields and gardens are dry and the lands bear no crops
But this we know, that our help comes from you O Lord our God
So we beseech you, Gracious Father, to send us rain.
‘The poor and homeless search for water, but there is none;
their tongues are parched with thirst.
But I the Lord will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
I will make rivers flow on barren heights.’
So we beseech you, Gracious Father, to send us rain,
and this we ask in Jesus’ Name.
