Walking In The Spirit

We are in the season of Pentecost. Celtic Christians undertook forty days of vigil at this time. Since it was summer in their lands they could go outdoors and learn to 'walk in the Spirit'.  Here are suggestions for walking in the Spirit each of the forty days.

WEEK ONE:

Spend the first week cogitating on a fruit of the Spirit  each day (Galatians 5:22,23).

WEEK TWO

Spend the second week cogitating on a gift of the Spirit each day (1 Corinthians 12:8-10),

WEEK THREE

Spend the third week discerning a prompting of the Spirit each day.

WEEK FOUR

Spend this week replacing a vice with a virtue, using a stone to signify the vice.

Day1 As I lay down this stone I lay down PRIDE, and clothe myself with HUMILITY.

DAY 2  With this stone I  lay down  A POSSESSIVE, CONTROLLING SPIRIT and clothe myself with OBEDIENCE TO GOD IN ANOTHER PERSON.

DAY 3   With this stone I lay down JUDGING AND STEREOYTPING and clothe myself in FORGIVENESS.       

DAY 4  With this stone I lay down RESENTMENT and clothe myself with GENEROSITY

DAY 5  With this stone I lay down FEAR of others, and clothe myself with OVERCOMING LOVE.

DAY 6    With this stone I lay down  abusive  behaviour towards people of a different gender, race , class or personality type and clothe myself with HOSPITALITY OF THE HEART.

DAY 7 With this stone I lay down GREED and clothe myself with SIMPLICITY.

WEEK FIVE 

Spend this week praying for the healing of a place or situation

DAY 1  With this stone  I ask Christ to open eyes in this area to blindness to others' needs 

DAY 2  With this stone I ask Christ to lay upon hearts these areas of neglect ...

DAY 3 With this stone I  ask Christ to break the hold of the spirit of misrepresentation

DAY 4  With this stone I  ask Christ to free this place from any curse or damning words put upon it.  

DAY 5   With this stone I  ask Christ to free up false  behaviour patterns …

DAY 6  With this stone I ask Christ to  expel the demons of  …

DAY 7 With this stone I ask Christ to replace dependency with prayeful actions.

WEEK  SIX 

Spend this week praying in transforming  virtues and powers. 

DAY 1  With this stone I  invite in forgiveness

DAY  2  With this stone I invite in truth

DAY 3  With this stone I  invite in  love

DAY 4  With this stone I invite in the healing of these wounded memories ...

DAY 5  With this stone I invite in understanding and acceptance

DAY  6  With this stone I invite in the power of Christ

DAY 7 With this stone I invite in the Risen Christ to blow through this place with the wind of the transforming Spirit.
